Arthur Christopher Warming Center

During the weeks of February 7–14 small groups and individuals from our Lowcountry campuses are invited to serve our homeless neighbors on cold nights at the Arthur W. Christopher Community Center, located in downtown Charleston near The Citadel.

The community center will be converted into an overnight and early morning Warming Center from November through March when temperatures drop below 40 degrees. Warming Center volunteers will be on-call for their selected dates to facilitate the shelter operation. The decision to open the shelter will be made by the City of Charleston Housing Authority 48 hours prior to operation.

Volunteers must be at least 18-years-old and complete a background check, at no cost, along with a brief training with our Seacoast Volunteer Coordinator. City supervisors and uniformed police officers will be on-site during all hours of operation at the Warming Center Shelter.

You must fill out the following three forms prior to serving and return them to Lindsay Missel, mazelll@charleston-sc.gov.
