What is a hook, and how do you grab a reader’s interest and keep it? We’ll study the first pages of several books to analyze why their beginnings are so strong. We’ll also play with different beginnings to our own stories to see which provide the most tension and set the best tone for the story we want to tell.

This workshop will be led by writer, Marney McNall. Marney serves as Seacoast’s Editorial Manager for devotional series, website stories, and print publications, such as the Sisterhood Magazine for the Chosen conference. She earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the Newport MFA.
